As editor I took what was relevant to Paul’s contributions in general leaving out  personal communication between himself and the recipient. It is not so uncommon that the handicapped pull souls together, or that a death initiates new earthly activities. Many a charity is established with a death.

The fundamental basis for the Masons is to work for the betterment of mankind- they it is who established laws for the sake of benevolence. Fifteen of the seventeen of the founding Fathers of this country were Masons- behind which lies the deepest mysteries of Temple Building (as with the Temple of Solomon) or the mystery of initiation into the spiritual world by the builders of the Pyramids in Egypt. So doing the good is a basic with this brotherhood, which Rudolf Steiner wanted to build on. He wanted and did not found anything that should be secret. He wanted all up front and no secrete society workings- transparency was and is the goal when building on the sophia of human existence- that is anthroposophy. It is through anthroposophical connections that you and your father were met as they were. So you can look to this domain to give thanks as well.

I’ve just finished a 400 page study on the humanity of Christian Rosenkreutz- a being hidden from mankind in general- misrepresented for the most part, but who offered the possibility for longevity and a birthing of deeper spiritual life for the present day “graying of mankind”. The Founding Fathers were also in touch with the Rosicrucian impulse in the world- particularly in the family known as Clymer- one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence.

For years I have sought the basis for Arabism, the work of now known Caliph activity in the days of the Arabic soul-spiritual life- being addressed in a number of publications that I receive- eg Biblical Archeology, Scientific American, Foreign Affairs, and the Smithoneon, as well as National Geographic. With our war in Iraq I live with the question if we are not returning to the beginnings of the Third Cultural Epoch- even to the point that there is much being touted about following out the travels of Abraham- 2800-3000 BC? Rudolf Steiner has given a very revealing statement about the Arabian geology-geography- and this is that the earth itself gave rise to Arabism. He noted this to be the case when “knowing souls” took sensitive souls from that land to the British Isles to become the basis for the first Christian monasteries. These souls could not take the earthly forces- I take to be the mighty chemical-magnetic, and volcanic background of the Middle East particularly in Judea of our times- extending into current Arabia. I have the impression that Christ incarnated in the terrible residue of Old Lemuria in that area. From Rudolf Steiner’s investigations I gather that Islam was a Luciferic reaction to that Mammonic landscape. The oil and the striving to master atomic energy then is but a visible symptom of a much deeper reality of that area of the world.

What you are referring to in your letter is something that I have shared with one or another concerning Pfeiffer’s role in the birth of the book by Ita Wegman and Rudolf Steiner. (This content is not in the compendia.) I do not recall exactly with whom I have shared, but did so in medical meetings at different times. The gist is that Rudolf Steiner was working with Ita Wegman to found a new approach to therapeutics, and in fact was looking to found a clinical biochemistry- something you will find when you look into the book. At that time there was not yet a clinical biochemistry- actually I trained under one of the founders- busy in the late 1920s at the medical school in Chicago. What Ehrenfried shared was that he was asked to be present during discussions that took place between Ita Wegman and Rudolf Steiner. He was invited because of his studies in biochemistry. Rudolf Steiner did not consider himself or Ita Wegman to be a biochemists and therefore he asked Ehrenfried to be present when chemistry was in question. He mentioned to me that Ita Wegman was not particularly comfortable with his presence- appeared to be a bit put off it seemed to Ehrenfried. If you knew Ehrenfried you could understand this as he was quite open and outspoken at times. He in himself was someone to be looked up to, to be considered when he was present. He noted how hard Rudolf Steiner strove to find this new biochemistry, to respect what was current in the fields in his time. .

The newspaper article is symptomatic. Slowly water becomes a subject in itself, and you will find that even in an issue of Scientific American of last year, the reality of potentization has been rediscovered in the academic world. In the report from Scientific American they call the process of multiple dilution and succussion (spelling?) “homeosis” and say directly that they do not want to use the term “homeopathy”. They point to the media is important, that is the water- so indicated by Rudolf Steiner. Science is just beginning to follow out a line of research that Lilly Kolisko first undertook in 1922 working with Rudolf Steiner. Here are a few thoughts about water-

1) its natural state is that of a fluid – an expression of the etheric vis a vie solid, airy, and solid.

2) it has to be given bounds, when they are large one has the oceanic- etheric is boundless unto itself, though it gave space, then time in the past now it gives suctional qualities in relation to the other states of matter

3) it lifts- has a lifting force system within it- eg ice floats- our 1800 gram brain becomes 20 grams or thereabouts- when we use our brain we mostly live in lightness- this is not thinking but a fundamental sense of being oriented in the ether space of the world around us- when thinking out of ourselves it is like walking on water.

4) when it is in movement between the airy state and the solid it tends to develop laminar flow- planes of flow- fine sheaths of liquid flow over one another giving expression to that great tendency for the etheric that carries water to go into planes as etheric formative forces

5) The fine sheaths rise easily to form a gaseous state. In large masses, a hydro-atmospheric circumstance becomes a cloud when the earth draws the water towards its being, and pure air when the ether-light of the sun pulls the water towards its called holy domains (the hollowed-out domain of the ether, the domain of the astral, and the domain of the spirit-self).

6) When water is subjected to the earth, it imitates the earth’s roundness to form a drop. Earth ego forces work formatively, creating a sphere out of a plane.

7) When a drop falls, the physical of the earth reaches out to pull the drop towards its being.

8) When a drop or gas of water rises towards the stars, it becomes permeated by astral forces, giving water an element of warmth (up to the Moon-Mercury). Then, a tendency for the formative to give solid that is dead.

9) when eddies form then there is a play between the forces of the solid, the airy with a first entry of the astral with air.

10) When vortices form in water moving between the solid and the airy then the astral permeates the water so that       emptiness can take up the astral-ego-like forces from the domain of the star world modified by the sun and planets, thus the time of vortex formation with taking in of the cosmic astral is time dependent.

11) When a plant comes into being then the fluid is taking up into the plant by light-ether forces which are sun dependent, modified by the star world- with astral formative activities- so that the water can support chemical activities.

12) When a plant gives off water, then the warmth-ether of the sun embraces the watery to once more give soulness back to water.

13) When water becomes soul expressive then the play between the darkness of water-drop, and the lightness of sun-ether permeation gives rise to the rainbow.

14) Water when permeated by the darkness of earth matter- drop water- and light-ether sun loving-light-ether, then the soul of the world is expressed in the rainbow- then color is born.

So these are some thoughts where an effort is made to bring water into a context that is not usual so that the linear, the planar, the spherical, the radiational and the dispersing make up of water might be sought. Further, water is essential that life-processes, inner movements and life-stages can have a working within the human make up- thus we are “all wet” as the saying goes. I take it that the beingness of water was birthed on Old Moon Evolution- needed were the workings of the Thrones, Kyriotetes and Dynamis and their offspring- the mercurial garment of Hermes-Raphael. All this so we might think of water other than marbles, cups, spheres, crystalline tetrads, and the like. It appears that lightness, mobility, selflessness and total malleability of soul is needed to try to approach water.
