The Life of Rudolf Steiner in Relation to Religion

The triangle has always been a symbol for the triuneness of the higher world. What is there is the domain where God is spoken of. In the east this was noted to be the world of Nirvana. What is shared is a kind of hierarchical form for the make up of man, and at the same time a spatial consideration for the place in which spirituality can take place. A higher world and a lower world can be contemplated and at the same time, a man’s make up in relation to this dual can be seen. The possibility to bring the higher to the lower is not so well depicted with this diagram, but the flow of the prayer leads from above to the below.
Now let us turn to another possible formulation, another diagram of this prayer. Let us take up more the core of the human being, the ego as the central active agent, in the transformation of the lower to the higher. The following prayer diagram gives more of an emphasis on the being of man, where the ego is active and is not so much petitioning for the higher world to come to one’s aid. Rather what is being petitioned is for the being of man himself to become active.

With this diagram, we have an above and a below placed in time, with the human ego as a central point in bringing about a separation, and at the same time, a possible transformation. In bringing the ancient past of Saturn, Sun and Moon to the present ego of Earth and the present constitution of man, it is possible to think that the ego can bring the future to the present. With the future brought to the present, then it is possible to think that the higher can be a present goal of work. Such a present work is called the unfolding of the higher man, and at the same time, can be considered to be initiation.
